Microsoft's chief legal officer calls out Apple's App Store policies
Microsoft's chief legal officer, Brad Smith, believes antitrust regulators should fully investigate Apple tree's App Store. Smith spoke about the App Shop and its walled garden nature in an interview with Political leader earlier this week.
"If yous look at the industry today, I think what you'll find is increasingly you're seeing app stores that have created higher walls and far more than formidable gates to access other applications than anything that existed in the industry 20 years ago," Smith says of the App Shop, adding, "They impose requirements that increasingly say there'south merely one way to go onto our platform, and that is to go through the gate that we ourselves take created. In some cases they create a very high price for a toll, in some cases thirty percent of all your revenue has to become to the toll keeper if yous will."
Smith does non state that the app store he's referring to is Apple's, merely Bloomberg confirms that he as referring to the Apple tree App Store, every bit clarified by a Microsoft spokesperson.
